The Environmental Coalition of Prince Edward Island 126 Richmond St., Charlottetown, PEI C1A 1H9 January 21, 2009 Dear current, past or future ECO-PEI member: The Annual General Meeting of the Environmental Coalition of Prince Edward Island is coming up, and it is always a good opportunity to see old friends and make new acquaintances. We would like you to join us Thursday, February 4 at the Colonel Gray High School lecture theatre in Charlottetown from 6:30-8:30 pm. Our business meeting begins at 6:30 pm and will outline the year’s activities, including updates on the Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project and the ECO-PEI Energy Project. We will also be holding elections for the 2010 board. At 7 pm, we will have Dr. Alan MacEachern, Associate Professor of History at the University of Western Ontario, as our guest speaker. Dr. MacEachern will be speaking on the history of the environmental movement on PEI from the seventies on, including many people who moved to the province to live more lightly on the land. He will discuss many of the initiatives that were underway at the time, including the work of the Institute of Man and Resources. After Dr. MacEachern’s talk, we will have a panel discussion featuring some community members who were involved in the Ark Project, the Institute of Man and Resources, and one of the early small-scale organic market gardeners. There will be lots of time for discussion afterwards. Please plan to attend and bring a friend. This is an excellent opportunity to reflect on the past and learn how we can move forward in protecting and enhancing our environment. You can also find out how to get involved in the work of the Environmental Coalition of Prince Edward Island. If
you're unable to attend the AGM but would like to renew your ECO-PEI
membership ($10 individual, $25 supporting, $100 corporate) we invite you to
fill out the form. In
past years, members received a copy of the Coalition's newsletter, ECO-News
(published twice yearly) in the mail. We stopped this practice to save on
postage costs when it became evident that most members were able to obtain a
copy at coffee shops, libraries, and the Charlottetown Farmer’s Market.
However, members and other interested Islanders outside Charlottetown may
have more limited opportunities to come across the newsletter. If you would
like to receive the ECO-News in the mail, or by E-mail, please indicate this
on your membership form. An expanded form of our newsletter and lots of other
information is always available on our website: http://www.ecopei.ca/econews.htm Finally,
our monthly board meetings are held at the PEI ECO-Net office, 2nd
Floor, 126 Richmond St. and are open to the public. You're welcome to come by
to meet us and participate any time. Call the ECO-PEI office at 902-566-4696 or
email us at energy@ecopei.ca to find
out when our next meeting will be. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you at the AGM, The ECO-PEI Board (2009) Rod Dempsey, Ruth DeLong, Dana Race, Shannon Hartigan, Raymond Loo, Darren Bardati, Don Mazer, Matt McCarville, Daniel McRae, Gary Schneider, Rob Sharkie, Audrey Wilkinson |
